Summer swimming finished with a climax in Montgomery County.
15 league records fell at the 2013 MCSL relay and individual all-star meets on Saturday and Sunday capping off another fantastic season in Maryland’s premier summer league.

Flower Valley‘s Jack Conger, the three-time All-Met Swimmer of the Year, broke the 15-18 boys’ 50-meter butterfly record with a time of 23.94. Conger is the first swimmer in the D.C.-area to go under 24 seconds in summer league competition. Conger owned the previous record of 24.05, set at last year’s all-star meet. Conger recently returned from the World University Games in Kazan, Russia where he earned his first international gold at the non-junior level in the 200 backstroke. Conger graduated from Good Counsel High School in Mary and has enrolled at the University of Texas where he will swim this fall and winter. Conger also won the 100 backstroke event but missed his own record by just under a second with a time of 54.45.

Mill Creek Towne‘s Catherine Mulquin, heading to Notre Dame in August, finished her MCSL career on top by breaking two league records in her final all-star meet appearance. She set the mark in the 15-18 girls’ 100 backstroke with a time of 1:01.80. She broke Cara Chung’s mark from 2007 by 1.08 seconds. Hannah Lindsey (Regency Estates) also went under the mark with a time of 1:02.55.
Later in the meet, Mulquin touched out two-time first team All-Met Caroline McTaggart (Chevy Chase Rec.) for the record in the 50 butterfly, 28.53 to 28.55, respectively. McTaggart had previously owned the record, set in 2012. Caroline Clark finished third. Both McTaggart and Clark went under the previous record.
McTaggart may have lost her record in the butterfly event, but managed to lower her own mark in the 15-18 girls’ 100 freestyle with a time of 57.12 seconds. McTaggart, a rising junior at Holton-Arms, will head to Irvine, California for the junior national championship on August 5-9.

Additionally, Danny Calder (Mohican) broke his own record in the 11-12 boys’ 50 butterfly, lowering the mark by .45 seconds to 29.17; Phoebe Bacon (Tallyho) broke a three-year-old record in the 9-10 girls’ 25 backstroke by .51 seconds for a time of 15.78; Ben Long Zuo (Tallyho) matched Grant Goddard‘s 2007 mark of 14.96 in the 9-10 boys’ 25 butterfly; Brett Feyerick (Tallyho) shaved another .39 off his own league record in the 9-10 boys’ 25 back for a new mark of 15.58; and Zach Youth (Garrett Park) set the record in the 11-12 boys’ 50 breaststroke with a time of 34.43.
Upper County's
Upper County’s squad of Brandon Cu, Ryan O’Leary, Jason Tang, and Samuel Tarter continued to impress in the 13-14 boys’ age group by breaking their own record in the 200 medley relay from 1:55.84 to healthcare of canada pharmacy 1:55.07.
Stonegate’s team of Nina Allen, Mandy Sanidad, Syndey Allen, and Amy Lamb took down the mark in the 8 and under girls’ 100 medley relay with a time of 1:22.48.
Feyerick, Cameron Barclay, Zuo, and Josh Wolfson from Tallyho broke the record in the 9-10 boys’ 100 medley with a time of 1:07.46.
Rockville set the record in the mixed 15-18 200 free and 200 medley relays. Kevin Fu, Jessica Chen, Elaina Gu, and Harrison Gu combined for the free record with a time of 1:43.24. Fu, H. Gu, Scarlett Sun, and E. Gu combined for the record in the medley with a time of 1:54.94.
Zuo, Sophie Whiteway, Bacon, and Feyerick from Tallyho set the mark in the mixed 9-10 200 free relay with a time of 2:09.77.
